Out and About in the Arboretum

August 29, 2025 – Mushrooms
Some things seem to pop up overnight, like these mushrooms near Rushmore Lane. And although fun to look at, we recommend you do not touch or consume any unknown fungi.

August 22, 2025 – Butterfly Bush
Butterfly bushes come in a wide range of colors and are irresistible to butterflies. This is a Sachem butterfly.

August 15, 2025 – Zinnia
Zinnia elegans, or Common Zinnia, is anything but boring! The colorful flowers emerge in late summer and give us lasting blooms. In addition to being easy to grow, they are relatively disease resistant, great for pollinators, and unappetizing to deer.

August 8, 2025 – Crape Myrtle
Crape Myrtle, or Lagerstroemia, blooms in a variety of colors and thrives in the heat of summer. There are many of these multiple-trunked trees throughout the arboretum.

August 1, 2025 – Court 26
If you haven’t been to and through Court 26 lately, make sure you visit! Between the hostas, hibiscus, coneflowers, and more, you will find something to enjoy.

July 25, 2025 – Hibiscus
It’s that time of year when the abundant variety of Hibiscus flowers explode into bloom. You can find them in many places and colors around the campus.
