February 5, 2021 – River Birch

On a crisp and cool day in February, it is a great time to take a moment to enjoy the beauty of the bark of our River Birch trees.

The primary function of bark is to protect against weather elements, and defend against insects, but bark also offers distinct looks and texture as trees mature.

Of particular note is the bark on the River Birch trees that you find at the entrance to the Lumberton Campus, and in the Medford Campus Community Building parking lot.

The exfoliation of the bark is remarkable and lovely to enjoy during the winter months.
