June 29, 2018 – Southern Magnolia
Southern Magnolia, Magnolia grandiflora, is a large evergreen tree which may grow up to over 100’. It is truly a tree for all seasons, as the shiny dark green leaves have a wonderful yellow-brown underside throughout the year, and right now, creamy white flowers emerge from the tips of the branches.

June 24, 2018 – Lumberton Campus Meadow Blooms
Over the past several weeks, the Lumberton Campus Meadow has come alive with many wildflowers and grasses coming into bloom. In particular, the Penstemon digitalis (White Beardtongue), Blue Flag Iris, and False Blue Indigo have provided wonderful color for all to enjoy.

Introduced to North American in 1861, the Kousa Dogwood is an elegant Asian cousin of the familiar native flowering dogwood. This tree has gained popularity due to its disease resistance, long bloom of creamy bracts, colorful red fruit in late summer for the birds to enjoy, and last but not least, its interesting mosaic bark featured throughout the year.
