Cornus officinalis, commonly called Japanese cornel dogwood, is native to China, Japan and Korea, but it can easily be found in our Medford Campus Community Building parking lot. February 22, 2019 – Wildlife Fencing
The Medford Campus Farmers are particularly excited and pleased to see the installation of a new deer fence to prevent the deer from invading their gardens. Rob Benner, the Benner Deer Fence Company, has been on Campus working on this project in conjunction with our resident Farmers.

February 8, 2019 – Witch Hazel
Despite the fluctuations of temperatures over the past weeks, one thing you can count on in February is the blooming of the Witch Hazel (Hamamelis species) in Court Six on the Medford Campus. This shrub like tree is in bloom right now and ready to be enjoyed as a promise of spring to come.

Yes, the winter season can be an interesting time to view trees as you are Out and About in the Arboretum. Of particular note is the Acer griseum, commonly known as Paperbark Maple. We are fortunate to have several of these very special specimens on the Medford Campus — all in various stages of development — from more youthful trees
