No April Fool! the Autumn Flowering Cherry (Prunus subhirtella ‘Autumnalis’) is now clothed in light pink flowers. There may be a scattering of blooms in the fall or winter, but the majority of bloom comes in the spring, before the leaves.

We are fortunate to have a number of Cornus mas on the two Campuses. Commonly known as Cornelian Cherry, the Cornus mas is a deciduous shrub or small tree. It is endearing to us as the yellow flowers emerge in early spring for us all to enjoy.

The witch hazel ‘Diane’ is a red-flowered form with spreading branches. This loosely-branched, deciduous shrub typically grows to 12-20′ tall. It has spidery, fragrant, mid- to late winter flowers which are in bloom now.
