Out and About in the Arboretum

October 7, 2022 – Crabapples
During the spring the Crabapple graces us with beautiful rose colored blooms, and now as we enter the fall season we can enjoy the red and yellow fruit.

September 23, 2022 – Beautyberry
Unlike most Beautyberries which boast purple berries, this variety is noted for its unusual white fruits.

September 16, 2022 – Seven-sons Tree
The Chinese Seven-Sons Tree, Heptacodium miconioides, features clusters of fragrant, creamy-white flowers in late summer to early fall.

September 2, 2022 – Akebono
New in the Medford Leas Pinetum is “Akebono – Dawn of the New Spring.” This sculpture, given by the artist James Fuhrman, adds an intriguing new element to our Arboretum, and we are most appreciative.

August 26, 2022 – Bur Oak
An early sign of the fall season to come, the now-young acorns of the Bur Oak will grow into the largest acorns of any oak.

August 19, 2022 – The Dragon’s Eye
the Dragon’s Eye Pine (Pinus densiflora) has needles that are marked with bands of yellow and green, colors which intensify in the heat of the summer.
