Crataegus virirdis ‘Winter King’, commonly known as a Hawthorn tree, is currently in bloom. You will find a number of these trees planted on both Campuses, but of note are the ones planted just last year, in an orchard style in the area outside of Courts 20, 25 and 26 on the Medford Campus.
These trees will mature at 20-35′ in height. Fragrant, white flowers are currently in bloom and will be followed by small red fruits that ripen in September and usually persist on the tree well into winter. These fruits are a special treat for the birds through the cooler seasons, and give this tree seasonal attraction for all to enjoy.
