Hellebore plants (Helleborus species) are among the few perennials which bloom in late winter to early spring. Their unique flowers range in color from creamy white to pink, maroon and nearly black. In particular, they thrive in the shade and often do well in the company of spring bulbs.
There are a number of Courtyard Gardens that are home to Hellebores, and while you are out and about in the Arboretum, you may want to check out Courts 13, 25, and 17.
