Barton Arboretum and Nature Preserve

of Medford Leas

March 19 to 25, 2017 – ‘Little King’ Dwarf River Birch

[su_spacer size=”10″]A new tree was planted in the Arboretum at the end of February. A ‘Little King’ Dwarf River Birch, Betula nigra, was planted in the lawn beyond the Terrace of the Colonial Dining Room on the Medford Campus. This specimen is a perfect size as it will grow to be just about 10-12′ tall, so it will not impact the view from the Terrace. It is a multi-stemmed cultivar with an irregular crown. One of its features is the orange-brown colored bark, which exfoliates at an early age to reveal a somewhat lighter inner bark.
