of Medford Leas

March 11, 2018 – Meadow

spraying the meadowAt this time of the year, the Meadows on both Campuses are mowed. The reason for the mowing is to stimulate new growth for the season to come. Always the challenge is the weather and ground conditions. Too wet, and the tractors can get stuck, too early, and you could be dealing with snow on the ground. As you may recall from a posting in the fall, this year the Medford Meadow will begin to be improved to make the area more colorful and sustainable in terms of native plants, grasses and wildflowers. A group of residents and staff are working collaboratively with Larry Weaner Landscape Associates to develop a plan for this project. We anticipate that this project will evolve over a number of years. As plans are being developed, the first task will be to flag the Medford Meadow in preparation for mowing. The goal of these markers is to preserve a thicket of Sumac on the east side of the Meadow and a patch of Bayberry on the Bridlington side of the Meadow. You may see markers in the Meadow as this takes place. Stay tuned for updates as this project moves along.
