American Public Gardens Association is the professional association for public gardens in North America, supporting the public horticulture community in its mission to study, display, and conserve plants.
America’s Garden Capital. The Philadelphia region has a rich tradition of public gardens, arboreta and historic landscapes. There are more than 30 gardens within 30 miles of Philadelphia. In 1989, a consortium of Philadelphia-area gardens joined forces to promote their gardens and encourage visitation.
So much of the nation’s horticultural history is rooted in this region that it has been dubbed “the cradle of horticulture.” Today, Philadelphia has earned its place as ‘America’s Garden Capital’ with a surplus of public gardens offering a wide variety of horticultural display, and events, all year long. The Barton Arboretum and Nature Preserve are proud to be members of this organization.
Arbnet, the Interactive Community of Arboreta, created its Arboretum Accreditation Program to establish and share a widely recognized set of industry standards for the purpose of unifying the arboretum community. No other international program of accreditation exists that is specific to arboreta. The Barton Arboretum and Nature Preserve of Medford Leas is proud to have secured Arbnet Accreditation.
Garden State Gardens, is a Consortium of New Jersey’s Public Gardens, and seeks to increase the public’s awareness of and appreciation for the beauty and horticultural, educational, artistic and historic value of New Jersey’s public gardens.
Lumberton Township, home to just over 12,000 individuals occupies a total area of 13 square miles. In its early days, the township was named for its lumber industry, which supplied cut pine trees to Philadelphia. Farms took the place of many areas in the township, following the removal of much of the original forest. The township borders Route 38 which provides easy access to points east, west, north and south, connecting easily to the NJ Turnpike and Route 295. The Lumberton Civic Association (LCA) works to raise awareness of the history, environment and needs of Lumberton, NJ, and is dedicated to facilitate improvements to the Township through events and activities undertaken by a cooperative effort of LCA volunteers and Lumberton government.
Medford Township is nestled between fertile farms and the Federal Pinelands Natural Reserve in Burlington County, New Jersey. Located 30 minutes from Philadelphia and 45 minutes from the Jersey shore, Medford Township serves as the hub of business and culture for this region. Medford has a Village area, where unique shops and restaurants line our original and historic “Main Street.” Dedicated open space, private camps, bike paths and sidewalks allow for many recreational activities. With Medford’s border of a million acres of protected forest and over 50% of the township as dedicated open space and natural surroundings, Medford is assured of a quiet and healthy environment for the future.
Morris Arboretum of the University of Pennsylvania is a historic public garden and educational institution. It promotes an understanding of the relationship between plants, people and place through programs that integrate science, art and the humanities.
New Jersey Conservation Foundation protects threatened natural areas and farmland through land acquisition and stewardship, promote strong New Jersey land use policies and forge partnerships to help safeguard water and other natural resources.
Pinelands Garden Club in Medford, NJ, provides education and promotes the love of gardening, floral design, civic, and environmental responsibility. Pinelands Garden Club hosts monthly meetings in the Medford Leas Community Building on the Medford Campus.
Pinelands Preservation Alliance is the only private non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the resources of the New Jersey Pinelands. They use advocacy and education to involve the public and persuade government to protect the natural and cultural resources of this extraordinary region.
Rancocas Conservancy promotes the preservation and protection of the Rancocas Creek Watershed, through land acquisition and environmental education.
Rancocas Valley Plein Air Painters is a group of artists who enjoy painting and photographing landscapes and cityscapes on location.
