Beautiful Cornus kousa dogwoods greet you upon entering the Lumberton Campus. They are a cousin to the American Dogwood and are native to China and Japan. There is a theory that over the millennia the Kousa Dogwood developed fleshy fruits which appeal to the native monkeys. Here in the Arboretum, this tree is a favorite for providing varied interest throughout the year. We are fortunate enough to have a number of these specimen trees on both Campuses for all to enjoy.
