A recent rain and wind storm wreaked havoc with one of our newer specimen trees, Eastern Redbud, Cercis canadensis “The Rising Sun”. This tree located by the entrance to Rushmore on the Medford Campus was virtually split in half from the wind.
Arborist Ken Hutz came out to assess and repair. He was able to place screws to hold the trunk together, so now we are in a holding and waiting pattern to see if this tree is a survivor.
Fingers crossed! we really love this tree with its chartreuse colored leaves.
