July 8, 2022 – Mahonia

Yes, they are blue berries, but don’t confuse them with the blueberries available now either picked fresh in the fields or at your local market.

Leatherleaf Mahonia is an upright shrub with distinctive evergreen foliage and clusters of showy, fragrant yellow flowers followed by bluish grape-like berries. The fruit may seem tempting to eat, but it’s not recommended.

There are a number of Mahonia on the Medford Campus and specimens can easily be found in Court Two.
