On these sweltering hot days, as you are out and about, it could be a good time to pause and appreciate the value of trees during this summer weather. Of course the shade of a tree can keep you cool, especially with a dense canopy that reduces the ambient temperature under the tree. Trees also can give you protection from the sun and in urban areas, they break up “heat islands” and release water vapor into the air through their leaves.
We are fortunate to have so many large trees across the Arboretum that we can all benefit from, especially through the summer.
