Of all of the things to value in the Arboretum during the winter, it seems appropriate to take time to be thankful for the broadleaved evergreen trees and shrubs. They look alive all winter long, with their ever-present foliage. This category includes: boxwoods, hollies, Magnolia grandiflora, leatherleaf mahonia, azaleas, rhododendron, and even the yucca. The cheerful shine of a boxwood or the bulk of a holly are pleasures in the winter. This category of plantings stabilizes the garden during the winter months. Just think if our Arboretum were absent of these steadfast shrubs and trees that give us green all year long. These elements in the garden provide color and texture for you to enjoy as you walk through the Campuses.
