One of the first flowers of the new year, the Snowdrop, is one of our most endearing flowers. As you are in the Atrium on the Medford Campus, you will be greeted by a carpet of white blooms. Galanthus, otherwise known as Snowdrops, have some fun facts surrounding them:

  • The Greek name ‘Galanthus’ translates as the milk flower.
  • They are symbolic of spring, purity and religion.
  • Victorians viewed a single snowdrop bloom as bad luck.
  • There are over 2500 varieties of snowdrops in the world.
