Visitors and Tours

Individuals and small groups are welcome to visit the Arboretum at no charge. All visitors are asked to sign in with the receptionist at Medford Leas’ Medford Campus Community Building, where maps and pamphlets for self-guided walks are available.

Tours and Programs for Groups

In addition to school and scouting groups, other groups that have visited the Arboretum include: Ocean County Parks System, Master Gardeners of Camden County, Master Gardeners of Burlington County, Garden State Gardens Consortium, and Mirage Hiking Club.

The Barton Arboretum and Nature Preserve is an ideal location to host a meeting for a garden club or nature group. Over the years a number of organizations and groups have visited the Arboretum and enjoyed a program about the history of the Barton Arboretum, as well as the relationship to Medford Leas. We are able to host such a program on either Campus. Often times following the program, which is offered to groups at no charge, the groups enjoy a tour of the Arboretum.

In addition, Jane Weston, Director of Community Relations, is avaiable to provide programming at your site for educational purposes. She provides a program about the history of the Barton Arboretum, as well as the relationship to Medford Leas, and this is accompanied by a PowerPoint presentation with great visuals to enjoy the Arboretum.

Master Gardeners, Interns, and Others

Master Gardeners

Burlington County Master Gardeners (shown left) maintain and nurture a large plot in “The Farm” raising vegetables which they give to food banks. In 2007, a 10-minute video titled “Master Gardeners at Medford Leas” was prepared by a Medford Leas resident. The video, taken in the Nature Center, shows an interview with the Burlington County employee who coordinates the program and two other Master Gardeners.

Lenape Regional High School students

Morris Arboretum interns designed new gardens at Bridlington. Lenape Regional High School students (shown right) worked in residents’ gardens to fulfill a graduation requirement of a day of community service.

In 2013 some members of the Pinelands Garden Club began working with the GIS project.

Residents’ Nature Walks

About twice a month, April through October, the residents’ Nature Walks group leads either a wildflower walk or a trail walk. Visitors who are interested in these walks may contact the receptionist and ask to receive email a few days ahead that describes the upcoming walk.

Pathways Trail Walks

In the spring of 2013, Medford Leas offered Trail Walks on both the Lumberton and Medford Campuses. The calendar page on the Medford Leas website provides information about the Pathways Program.

Wedding Photography

The Barton Arboretum is able to consider requests for small wedding parties for photos before or after the wedding ceremony.
